    I bought this ice chest because I take rafting trips where I put the raft in the river and then take it out a week later. I take off road trips in my Jeep where I may be in the boonies for 4 or 5 days. I have a brand X ice chest that if I am really careful will keep my food for 3 days. After that is canned food and warm soda. But, it was a leap for me to spend this kind of money on an ice chest. I took the leap. I then left for a 4 day trip around the eastern Oregon desert. Friday morning I put one 12 pound bag of ice in the Yeti. I then put in a 6 pack of soda, 4 small bottles of juice, eggs, hash browns, bacon, lunch meat, cheese, condiments.. you get the idea. I did not pre cool the food or the ice chest. The soda an juice were bought off the shelf, not from the cooler. I wanted to pretty much give the Yeti a good reason to fail. I figured if the Yeti ran out of ice, I would divert to a town and take care of it. I took no special care about how many times I opened it. It probably was opened 6 times a day to get stuff out and put stuff back. The following Tuesday I arrived back home and the Yeti was still keeping everything cold. Not cool, cold. I removed the ice and weighed it. 6.3 pounds left of the original 12 pounds.To those who gave this chest a bad review for not keep ice, I have to ask, did you close the lid? I mean I can’t figure it out.To those who gave this chest a bad review for being heavy I have to ask, did you not read the specs? How do you order something that says it weighs 10 pounds and then complain when it shows up and low and behold, it weighs 10 pounds? And guess what? If you put 12 pounds of ice and 20 pounds of food in it, it now weighs 42 pounds. The ice/food/drinks will always be the lion’s share of the weight, not the ice chest.It is well made. You will have to tighten the drain plug to keep it from leaking as it is not one of those cheap push caps, but it made so little water that I never had to drain it. Besides, 12 pounds of ice is about 1 1/2 gallons of water. The less than 6 pounds that melted is less than 3/4 of a gallon. Not enough to flood anything, much less a car.If all you want is something to keep t your stuff cool for an afternoon, I can see why you might be upset by the price or weight. If you need an ice chest to keep your food fresh for a week and the alternative is canned beans and hot soda, this the one for you.This thing works. It does what the manufacturer says it does. Buy it with confidence.

    Okay, do you really NEED a $300 cooler? I mean really? I guess you could also ask the question does anyone really NEED a Mercedes when a Volkswagen will still get you from point A to point B. If you are buying a chainsaw do you really NEED a Stil, or will a Poulan do just as well? I recently put 20 pounds of ice in my Tundra 45 for a picnic. 4 days later there was still ice in the cooler and I don’t just mean a few cubes floating around in a bunch of water. This thing was still about one third full of ice. I have been a longtime fan of Yeti tumblers but never could convince myself to take the plunge with a cooler, as expensive as they are. As a result of a recent price drop on the Yeti and the fact that once again, the lid broke off my “grocery store” cooler I decided to go for it. As usual, you get what you pay for. I have seen independent reviews that have shown the Yeti outperforms any other brand on the market and after owning one I am convinced. Truth be told, I almost went with a pelican just because it “looks” much cooler (no pun intended!) But I decided to stick with a brand that I knew and that has been tested and found to be the best and I couldn’t be happier. The design is simple but extremely sturdy. This is something that will get passed down generation to generation. If, like me, you appreciate quality and want a cooler that simply does the job better than anything else on the market and will not need to be replaced every couple of years because something breaks on it, this is well worth the investment.

    I just returned from a deployment and got to set my Yeti 45 on her maiden voyage at the NASCAR race at PIR. I spent a good amount of time fancying her up with patches and stickers from the recent deployment. It took about a half an hour before the latch broke. Piece of crap with $300 wasted and about an hour worth of time making her pretty. Never buying a Yeti again.

    This cooler, has thick walls which gave me hope that it would help keep things cold for days during the latest power outage. NOPE. It is not much better in retaining cold then my blue wheeled Colman Cooler. Ice did not remain for more than 2 days and the frozen bottled water defrosted in 3. No we did not open the cooler more than 2x a day. I would not recommend this cooler.

    Yeah–like many others –I thought that the Yeti was overpriced—and maybe it is–but I got it for road trips–some into bear country–I looked at other coolers that were still pricey but not as much as the Yeti. I also wanted a cooler that would last — well forever (barring disaster)–so maybe I paid a bit more–but I have more confidence in the Yeti holding up and keeping things cool! I’ve only used it once since purchasing (purchased a couple of weeks before this post)–had 18 cans in cooler with ice–ice hardly melted overnight! No regrets on the purchase!!

    What’s not to love about a Yeti cooler? I could go on about what I love but that has already been said a thousand times. To anyone that is on the fence on whether a cooler is worth $350 bucks listen to this. I recently went on a binge fishing trip. I packed up my SUV with the Yeti cooler and put two big bags of ice in it. My car sat in the heat in my garage on a Friday, then stayed parked in the hot sun on Saturday, Sunday then I came home Monday morning. I went to work in my other car Monday and came home that night to finish unpacking. There were still plenty of frozen ice pieces in the Yeti and the remaining drinks were super chilly and cold. I ended up leaving the drinks in the Yeti for the rest of week instead of bringing them into the fridge as they stayed colder in the Yeti. Oh yeah and it’s solid AF and bear proof. And it works as a great seat in a boat or while camping.

    I bought this cooler based off the incredible reviews I had read. Having used it on several camping trips now, I can’t say I am completely blown away. I did an ice test with it and my Coleman Marine cooler, which costs about $100. Three bags of ice each, sitting side by side, and the Coleman beat the Yeti by almost a day and a half. Disappointing, considering all the ranting and raving.However! Not all is lost. The Yeti is an INSANELY durable cooler. They advertise it as bear proof, and I completely believe them. Hefting it around, it definitely feels like you could toss it down a cliff face, climb down, and crack an ice cold if very foamy beer. In comparison, my Coleman feels like if you glance at it wrong it will pop a hinge.

    Best cooler i have ever owned. Any yeti product is hands down the best you can buy. Used this cooler on a 12 day trip. Ice melted on day 5 however stayed very cold till day 8. On the last day (day 12) it was slightly cooler then warm. Very good product for any 2 week trip
