I’ve had my Versa for over two years now. Is it as good as a Vitamix? No. But it comes close and for the price, it’s a great deal. I primarily use my Versa to make smoothies, and I use it daily. After about one year of use, I noticed a black grease material forming on the bottom of my blender jar underneath the blade mechanism. I later learned this is the grease that lubricates the ball bearings in the blade mechanism. It got worse and worse until the bearings themselves started falling out. These bearings would get shredded during the blending process, leaving metal shavings behind. Sometimes the blade mechanism wouldn’t spin at all while blending. This would result in the blender motor starting to smoke. You’ll see pictures in the different reviews of shredded metal parts and smoke stains caused by this problemYou can purchase a replacement jar for Oster for $75, but that’s an expensive solution to the problem. I fixed the problem by swiching out the blade mechanism with a replacement. I suggest the purchasing the following replacement mechanism for $15. It’s easy to replace and this new blade works better than the initial blades ever did.Berucci Stainless Steel Replacement Blade for Oster Versa 1400-watt Professional Performance Blender Juicertl;dr: Good blender with one major design flaw, the blade mechanism. Replace this when your blender jar starts leaking grease and before your blender starts seizing up and smoking.

For a guy who makes on average two smoothies a day every day, I wanted a beast of a blender, but did not particularly want to shell out a few hundred dollars more for a Vitamix. The Oster VERSA was great for five or so months, then its performance started to degrade. The bottom of the jar began to leak machine oil, and it seemed to be “trying harder.” It was still blending produce like a pro, so I thought maybe it was still in its ‘break-in’ period. One morning I was making a routine smoothie, and the blender started making a loud grinding noise. Thinking I had accidentally blended something I shouldn’t have, I ran over to pick up the jar and a bunch of tiny metal fragments, metal dust, and ball bearings fell from the bottom of the jar. Whoa. The only things inside the pitcher were frozen mango, banana, and coconut water. And that was the last smoothie this “beast” ever made.I called the warranty/support number, and the guy on the line was polite and sympathetic, but he charged me twenty bucks for a “Blender Accessory Refresh Kit” which I quickly learned does not fit this model in the slightest.I called again and explained what happened, and the woman said she’d put in a request to refund my credit card the twenty dollars, and send out a replacement pitcher under warranty. Still waiting on that. Been without a blender for a few weeks. At this point, I regret not shelling out for the Vitamix. I wish I could get my money back for the entire purchase. I can’t recommend this to anyone, and I would not buy it again.

I purchased this blender in January 2014 and within the first couple months the jar had a leak. I called customer service and they sent me a new jar. For the next few years the blender worked well and then started slowly leaking some type of oil from the bottom (probably from the bearings?) Finally the jar started smoking from below the blade and no longer works. Oster customer service told me that the jars don’t have a warranty and only replaced it the first time as a courtesy because the blender had only recently been purchased. Now it’s either $75 for a new jar or shop for a higher quality blender. For a blender with a 7 year warranty I shouldn’t have to pay $75 to replace an “accessory” that is necessary for using the machine.

This is a good looking and powerful blender. It does a great job on smoothies and can chop up the ingredients very finely. The long warranty and metal to metal mechanics were a deciding factor in the purchase. There are only two drawbacks that we noticed. 1.) the blender pitcher is plastic and not dishwasher safe but it is pretty easy to clean by running some soap and water through it. 2.) The tamper on our blender was too long and would start to grind itself up (see picture) if pressed down when running the blender. This was easily solved by using a saw to cut off roughly 1/4″ of the tamper but still a rather large oversight on the part of the manufacturer.

Got the blender in 2015 and have used it a lot in the last 2 years for smoothies. Like many of the reviews have talked about the blade on the jar failed today and started smoking. As a normal blender think its great, but if you use the smoothie button a lot expect it to fail on you. The smoothie function uses the ability to spin the blade in both directions to suck down all the fruit. This works great but ends up killing the jar. The warranty covers the motor but not the jar and you can no longer buy the jar anywhere. If you want this for making smoothie’s pick something else.

I was very disappointed to see that the “gear” socket on the bottom of the pitcher is MADE OF NON STAINLESS STEEL. After reading reviews on The Wirecutter, I thought surely this is the world’s best blender, but that’s a basic, and irredeemable, design flaw. A single wash-and-dry cycle later, and there’s ugly rust all over the place! And I don’t mean a little discoloration, I mean RUST, bright orange rust that wipes off easily and stains things (and yes it’s RUST, as in iron oxide, I’m not mistaking it for something else.) Seriously, for a kitchen implement that cost nearly $200, how on earth can they not make it out of stainless steel? I’m aghast.
