Makita is a leader in Brushless motor technology, and the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless cordless barrel grip Jig saw (model XVJ01Z, tool only, battery and charger sold separately) seamlessly combines precision and power with the efficiency of Brushless.

The XVJ01Z is engineered to deliver the power and performance of a corded Jig saw — without the hassles of a cord. It is ideal for professional woodworkers, cabinetry makers, specialized residential construction workers and any Pro-Contractor seeking a best-in-class cordless Jig saw.

The XVJ01Z features an ergonomically designed barrel grip, which is closer to the work surface for more precise cut.

The Brushless motor is engineered for efficiency, with a variable speed control dial (800-3, 500 SPM) that enables users to match the speed to the application.

Added features include 3 Orbital settings plus straight cutting for faster and more accurate cuts in a variety of materials. In addition, the efficient BL Brushless motor is electronically controlled to optimize battery energy use for up to 50% longer run time per charge than similar non-brushless tools.

Electronic controls efficiently use battery energy to match the changing demands of the application for increased power and speed when needed. And since there are No carbon brushes, the BL Brushless motor runs cooler and more efficiently for longer life.

Convenience features include a tool-less blade Change system that allows for faster blade installation and removal, and a large 2-finger variable speed trigger with lock-on button.

The heavy-gauge aluminum base is engineered for smooth, accurate cutting and added durability, and the dual L.E.D. Lights illuminate the work area. It weighs only 5.5 lbs. With battery (sold separately).

Powerful enough to make the cut but the designer fell short when designing the clear plastic guide next to the blade. After one use the damn thing popped out and the blade split it in half. Such a shame for a good product be poorly designed because no matter how good a product is when it is half hazzardly design it always leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I am already equipped with many other Makita 18v tools so this was a natural addition to my kit. Like all the others once you get used to the bit of added weight a battery pack brings it’s very nice to use. Until now I have owned a 2nd generation Bosch barrel grip and have been very pleased with it but plugging in is getting harder and harder. Now I have both. I have now used this tool on plywoods ranging from 3mm Teak w/Okoume cores to full 1″ Okoume, Douglas Fir 2×10, 1-5/8″ thick solid Teak and have zero complaints about anything. Heck of a nice tool, glad I bought it.

This is one of the best tools Makita makes and easily rivals the festool carvex. It’s more compact than the carvex and handles better imo. I like the no frills adjustments and power switches. And I also like that when you first turn it on the auto speed control tames the speed so you can calmly position the tool and start cutting unlike the carvex that starts up like a angry weasel in your hand. Nice feature and great saw.

Feels great in hand, easy to cope with coping foot and easy to cut a tight radius. The only thing I’m not in love with is the slow start technology.

The best feature on the saw is the variable speed. When you first turn it on it goes at a slow speed but once it contacts whatever you’re cutting it goes into high speed for a nice clean cut for a jig saw.

Plenty of power for a cordless. Feels sturdy.

What was Makita thinking designing a tool with no trigger. This tool is a piece of garbage. I am a building contractor and use a lot of tools, but this one I am going to give it away. I am going back to my old 3Amp Makita jig saw. I give it NO stars
