The Smart Oven is equipped with Element IQ cooking technology, which adjusts the power of the five individual quartz heating elements to cook food more evenly and quickly.
This sophisticated heating system distributes heat throughout the oven when and where it is needed, to guarantee more efficient cooking.
Nine different menu options allow users to choose the best setting for the food they are cooking.
In addition to dynamically distributing heat to different areas, the Smart Oven can adjust the wattage of its heating elements for even more cooking flexibility.
Most ovens have elements with fixed wattage that can only switch between ON and OFF, but Element IQ functions much like a dimmer on a light switch, increasing or decreasing element power with a simple turn of the knob.

I’ll start off by saying that I loved this oven. It did everything I needed it to and more, including toast, roasts, braises, and baking. That’s why I’m so disappointed that it broke just three months after the warranty expired. Out of nowhere the oven just became nonresponsive (blank screen). This oven is incredible but it is EXPENSIVE. It is TOO expensive to only last fifteen months, that is what I would expect from some disposable cheap product.I’m going to contact Breville customer service but I’m not holding my breath for a favorable resolution outside the warranty period. I’ll update this review with what comes next.If you are set on this oven, I’d recommend paying extra for the warranty. Otherwise, look elsewhere. But even the extended warranty is only two years, and if it is necessary to replace this every two years I would still say your better off looking elsewhere for both a durable and quality product. I’d say this oven is good quality but not durable enough to warrant the cost.EDIT: My friend recommended a solution to my problem – contact American Express and use their 1-year warranty extension program. I did this instead of trying to navigate through Breville’s customer service (which seemed harder and more time-consuming than it should be). AMEX did a great job, and just refunded me my money. I did some follow-up research to see what compact oven to buy, and it seems like enough people are having issues with their Breville out-of-warranty that I didn’t want to risk it again. I ended up going with the new Cuisinart TOB-260N, and I’m so far very pleased with the purchase. It isn’t as intuitive to use as the Breville, but the build quality is just as nice and the cooking results are as good if not better. The extra accessories with this oven were really nice (pizza oven and extra rack on top of broiler pan and baking sheet). I also think the Cuisinart baking sheet is higher quality than the one I got with the Breville. Oh, and the most important thing – there is a 3 year warranty on the Cuisinart! I think that says a lot about the longevity that Cuisinart expects from this kind of product. Also, when I purchased my Cuisinart it was $190, nearly $100 less than the Breville.

Purchased April 2015, died Dec. 7 2016 — a few months after warranty. When you pay $250 for a Toaster Oven, it should last more than 18 months. While it worked — and I used it almost every day — it worked very well. I used it for everything from morning toast, to roasting veggies and meat. It performed these tasks well. Until today, when it just died — probably something in the fancy electronic control system burned out. Even if you could find someone to do it, most likely not worth the time and cost. My advice, buy something much cheaper. Then, if it does in a year or so, you wont feel as cheated as I feel today.

This oven WAS working great until today… it just died on me while toasting some bread. No indication, or warning whatsoever that anything was amiss. It just completely went dark halfway through toasting; disappointed as we’ve only had this for 22 months, and this is one of the more expensive toaster ovens on the market at the time we purchased.

Love the way this oven functions. Toasted wonderfully, heated leftovers well. Baked French fries, pizza quickly and perfect. Loved it….. however, after close to two years, the display went blank! Determined to fix it, I opened it and replaced the thermostat with the help of my electrician neighbor. I was so happy to have fixed it for $5. The oven does get VERY hot. That was last fall(2017), now after less than one year, looks like it is blank again and I’m sure it’s the thermostat again. Not sure I want to do the work again just for a years usage… but not sure there is a better toaster oven out there that will last longer than two years!UPDATE: just changed the fuse again and it’s back to working … hoping it will last longer this time. Wondering why they don’t use a better fuse that can be reset? Glad to have it working again and not cluttering the landfill!:)

At first this iven seemed great. I like the knobs which make it very easy to change setting, time and temp. Little magnet that pulls tray out little bit when opening the oven was another plus. Everything seemed great at first. It worked fine for about a year and then convention fan stopped working which to me is a big thing. Shortly after that pressing a start/stop button would do different things. At times I would have to press it 10 times to start or stop, other times it would toggle convention fan, which doesn’t work but it makes sound, and sometimes it would do what it’s supposed to. I also realized that preheating the oven happens on a timer and is not based on the actual temperature which is very simple and easy functionality. If you preheat the oven to a temp, then stop it and set it to preheat again, you will have to wait again the same amount of time. Then I decided to check the actual temperature inside. I was cooking fish at 400 for 8 minutes, when i decided to actually check the temp of the fish using thermometer, and to my surprise, thermometer says 134 while the oven states 400. I hope this helps someone.

I’ve had this toaster oven since July 2014. The oven itself is good. We use it often. But the pans they included – a pizza sheet and roasting pan – within months they started cracking. The coating cracked I should say. So I put aluminum foil over it because it would be dangerous to cook with it otherwise. This is what it looks like currently. That’s not dried food. It is the black non stick surface peeling off.

Purchased in January 2015. Great oven, but began having problems starting about 15 months old. Just shy of 2 years now and the unit doesn’t work. Some of the issues: One: The panel flashes like a strobe light and has to be unplugged to clear the problem. Two: the oven heats up to the desired temperature but shuts off after the door is opened to insert the food. Too much money for an oven that works for less than 2 years. Very disappointed.

It stopped working 4 years after purchasing. I checked the thermal fuse which is a common problem with these units but it was fine.So I called up Breville Canada and waited on hold for over an hour to speak with someone. The options were $159 to have it repaired or 40% off the MSRP prices on breville.ca for a new one. Considering the discounted price offered from Breville wasn’t much different than what Amazon sells the brand new units for that really wasn’t much help. The toaster oven worked great but when spending over $200 on a toaster oven you expect to get more than 4 years out of it.If anyone has any recommendations for a more reliable replacement from a brand other than Breville please let me know.

It heats up fast, and with the convection option, it cooks food quickly. Our main oven sometimes burns food when the bottom burner comes on to bring the oven back to temperature. This oven, with the “smart” feature to heat different elements at different times, cooks the food easily. There are also a lot of cooking options – from the standards of bake, broil, toast, to the more specialized “bagel”, “pizza” and “cookies”. We typically use bake, broil, toast and bagel. My only complaint (and it’s more of a concern) is that the controls on the front feel very light-weight. I’ve read that Canadians don’t get the same level of support and warranty service that the Americans do, so keep that in mind when purchasing.

I sat on the fence for months deciding whether or not to purchase this oven and I finally decided to pull the trigger. I really didn’t want to spend this much money on something I really wasn’t sure I needed, but I have tried cheaper toaster ovens in the past and was never satisfied with the performance and quality, you do get what you pay for! I am happy to report that this toaster over has exceeded my expectations, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. I’ve owned it for about two months and we use it more than I thought we would. My 8 year old is really weird and loves to make cheese sandwiches in it and even he can figure out the functions and tweak the settings to his liking. I love that we have an extra “oven” to make side dishes when the regular oven is in use. It’s great for reheating leftovers instead of doing it in the microwave – sure it will take a bit longer but the results are far superior. Toast and bagels are always 100% perfect. It’s just so handy to have this little unit to bake, roast and broil stuff without having to fire up the big oven and heat up the kitchen, especially in the warmer months. So far, I can say that I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

We like the units (we bought two!). Within one month, one of the accessories broke (the oven tray warped instantly and became unusable). So we tried to reach Breville customer service from number given in the instruction book: the phone number given is NOT IN SERVICE! We plan to return both units to Amazon.ca if Breville does not reply to the email address given. Very surprizing from this Canadian company.

Bought this to reduce Hydro costs since dinner time is Peak Hydro Rate time. This little oven took care of most of my baking needs: warming up pizza and buns, small casseroles, open-faced sandwiches, reheat left over, etc. I lined the bottom with tin-foil to catch whatever drips that might leaked out of my cooking. I also purchased the wood cutting tray which sits on top of the Toaster Oven, makes moving things in and out of the oven much easier. Love this oven.

We have had this for over a year now and it is great. It is big enough to bake a regular sized frozen pizza . The heating is consistent and I have been able to successfully roast potatoes, bake small pieces of fish /chicken and a small cake. The dials make it easy to set the temperature, time and type of product (toast, bagel, pizza, roast, bake, etc.). Toast takes longer than in a stand-alone toaster but this is a good, versatile oven to have in your kitchen. It looks pretty nifty too! I line the bottom tray with tinfoil to contain any crumbs/spills – makes for easy cleanup. The only negative, I would say, is that it can look intimidating to first time users / visitors.
